José Arias

Research Interests: Empirical Banking, Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance

In 2022 I completed my PhD in Finance at Middlesex University London, UK, thanks to a research studentship granted by the Middlesex Business School. I also hold a Master in Finance (University of Chile) and a Bachelor in Business Administration (UCSC-Chile). My PhD thesis is titled Bank Regulation, Supervision and Financial Stability: An Empirical Study, and I am broadly interested in empirical banking and finance.

Since 2022, I’ve been an associate researcher at the Center for Enterprise and Economic Development Research (CEEDR), Middlesex University London (UK). In addition, I’ve served as a referee for Finance Research Letters, Economic Modelling, International Review of Financial Analysis, the North American Journal of Finance and Economics, Applied Economics, ARLA.

Currently, I’m an Assistant Professor of finance at the Catholic University of the Most Holy Conception. As a lecturer of Finance, I have taught several finance courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, both in Chile (UCSC, UdeC), Paraguay (Universidad Americana) and the UK (University of Reading).

I was awarded the Rising Star Award at the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) conference (2021). Moreover, I got the second Place Award UDEM-Adalberto Viesca Sada (2019) at the Universidad de Monterrey and the Thompson Reuters Best Paper Award at the Global Innovation and Knowledge Academy (GIKA) conference (2019).

Finally, I have also served as a consultant for firms in business valuation, financial planning, cost of capital, among others, in Chile, Paraguay and the UK.
